governmentninjaTwo years ago on my world, Ashley Graham, daughter of the President of the United States, was kidnapped. Because of where and how she was kidnapped, we suspected it was an inside job. The perpetrator simply knew too much about security protocols for it to be anything else. As such, the government kept quiet to th press about her kidnapping, and only a handful of agents at a time could be dispatched to investigate. I was one of the first agents sent out.
We received an anonymous tip, one that I believe was provided by Ada Wong (an Umbrella operative I previously encountered years ago during the Raccoon City outbreak), and I was sent to a small village in the rural outskirts in Spain to follow up on this lead. Whether or not Ada knew I'd be sent, or simply lucked out when the government sent me is something I haven't ben able to determine, but either way, my arrival played right into her hands.
The village was dominated by a cult known as Los Illuminados, and the cult was led by a man named Osmund Saddler. His chief lieutenants were Bitoriz Mendez, Jack Krauser (a former US operative who joined the cult as a spy for Wesker), and Ramon Salazar. The cult itself was centered around a parasite known as las plagas. These parasites, which were capable of infecting multiple types of organisms, bond with their host, and are eventually able to take over control of that host. Humans infected with las plagas are known as ganados. Those infected with a Master Plaga, a more complex version of the parasite that is able to control the others, claim to have control over it. Whether or not they actually do is another matter.
[locked, encrypted to Team Good]Since las plagas are very adaptable, Saddler was able to engineer a large variety of creatures with them. For more information about that, find Luis Sera. He's a former researcher for Saddler who turned on him, and helped me out a great deal while I was there.[/lock]
Saddler's plan was simple. He intended to infect Ashley with a master plaga, then send her back to the US so she can infect other high level US officials. I had to fight my way through most of his cult to finally get Ashley, and managed to kill Mendez, Krauser, and Salazar in the process. With some assistance from Ada, I was able to kill Saddler. Ada then promptly escaped with the Master Plaga sample that was meant to be used on Ashley.
In the aftermath, the Spanish government, which we now know had multiple officials on the Los Illuminados payroll, continually stonewalled any of the US's attempts to further investigate the village and put a more permanent end to las plagas. [Locked, encrypted to Team Good] It's unknown whether or not las plagas have been sealed under Salazar's castle, or if access still remains. I'll be investigating further.[/lock] Their stalling allowed enough time for those with master plagas (Krauser, Salazar, Saddler, and Mendez) to regenerate.
Salazar eventually escaped to the nexus, as did Saddler. Salazar was eventually captured, and I allowed him to be placed in the custody of Hippolyta Hollister while certain considerations were being worked out so he could stand trial. This proved to be a gross error in judgment on my part. Her position as jailer was little more than a farce which they hid behind while pursuing a romantic relationship. Once more pressing matters are taken care of, both Hips and Salazar will be dealt with. Severely.
Saddler has also popped up recently, not only in the nexus, but elsewhere as well. Becky's Raccoon City was recently the target of his. He infected a large number of the populace with las plagas, and left with them to an unknown location. Among the people who left with him were a number of employees at the Umbrella facility there. Becky and myself were able to eliminate the few remaining ganados, while Luis and Eiko were charged with the task of finding and removing the source of the infection. Becky chose to remain behind and assist recovery efforts, while I had to chase down several people who were infected, but skipped town before the infection fully manifested itself.
Saddler's current plans are unknown, but keep your distance from him. Given that they've both have been lying to us all for months, and outed themselves as a couple around the same time news of Saddler's attack on Becky's Raccoon was received, Hips and Salazar may also be somehow involved in Saddler's plans. Keep your distance from them as well.

As for looking deeper, who am I supposed to trust? Her word? His word? They've both spent months lying to everyone. Neither one of them has a shred of credibility to them as far as I'm concerned. They may be involved with Saddler, or they may not. The facts will eventually show themselves. But for right now? Give me one good reason why I should trust a single word that comes out of their mouths.

Date: 2006-07-13 07:53 pm (UTC)What I do know is that people from Raccoon tend to shoot first and ask later. I don't blame you guys, but I do expect that reaction over any other first off. Could be wrtong in that, but that's what I've seen. Out of all of you, if I had something like this to tell, I'd go to Becky, maybe Jill. The rest of you? I'd expect an explosion.
I'm willing to trust your word though that it isn't the game plan to kill her. But if it isn't, then what does 'severely' entail? Jail time? And that will do exactly what?
As for why trust? I trust them. I've been around Hipps since then, spoken to her face to face, and I know that neither one of them have any plans to help Saddler, Wesker, or anyone else in that camp. She also hasn't been sleeping well, which means she's chewing on problems she can't even come to the people who would know the most about them.
I agree the plaga is a problem. Not Salazar, but the plaga he has. It's a lot like vampirism that way. The person infected may or may not want to do what the vampirism wants it to do. Depending on how strong the infection is compared to the person infected determines a lot of their actions. And sometimes, the infection cannot be resisted.
But it's still seperate from the carrier. At least until it overtakes.
And I will repeat--with the Raccoon STARS reputation, no sane person would admit to being infected to you, let alone be involved in an unusual relationship with someone infected unless they had enough ducks lined up to present to you guys first off, unless it was as simple as 'I just got infected, please help'.
And even then, would that really be enough for you? Especially considering who it is? Sorry, man, but you guys really do have a reputation that preceeds you. I don't blame her or him for not saying anything.
Have you ever been afraid Leon? Try and remember what that's like, to be afraid of the people you should be able to trust. Then try and judge.

In that deal, that she willingly agreed to, Hips was required to be his jailer, and in a sense, a counselor to help Salazar redeem himself. She was an authority over him, his legal guardian; she was responsible for him, and for his actions.
You can't be someone's jailer and be their lover also. You can't be responsible for someone and fuck them at the same time. It goes against every principle of ethics ever made. Had I known their relationship had changed into that, Salazar would've been pulled from her custody (and he will be pulled from there) and placed elsewhere, and that is the right thing to do.
Hips knew all of that. I made that perfectly clear in our agreement. She knew full well what she was doing was wrong, on several levels, but she continued to do it anyway. She knew exactly what the consequences of her actions would be, she knew her life wasn't in danger from me, but did what she did anyway. And all the while, she hid behind the facade of "Oh, look at me, I'm being the responsible authority figure to help poor widdle messed up Ramon be a better person".
That is what I'm pissed off about, Derek.
Honestly, aside from the fact her fucking him is just flat out disgusting any way you slice it, Salazar is a non-entity in this equation. Going "omg Leon might shoot Salazar if he finds out they're boffing! D:" is the single most BULLSHIT excuse in the multiverse. Had it been anyone else in her custody, my reaction would still be largely the same. Salazar's presence just ups the "ugh, that's sick" factor. Not to mention her behavior also calls into question whether or not Salazar has actually been trying to redeem himself, or if he's just doing what he thinks she wants so that she'll fuck him.
I don't think I can spell out my reasoning as to Why This Is A Bad Thing any clearer than that.
And on a more personal level, I trusted her. I looked her in the eye, I shook her hand, I took her at her word, and the bitch lied to me. So I'm pissed off about that too, and frankly, I have every right to be.
Further more, as an investigator, one of the things I'm taught is "if someone lies to you about one thing, assume they're lying about everything, until the facts prove otherwise." So, yeah, she can say "I hate Saddler and I think he's a smeghead" until her lungs turn to dust, I have no reason to believe her. Hell, she can say "The sky is blue", but until I see it for myself, I still have no reason to believe her.
You can't give me a reason to trust her. There is none.
You can't give me any kind of excuse for her actions. There is none, Derek. None.

I never once hit her, I never pulled a weapon on her, I never threatened her life, I barely even raised my voice at her. She and I have talked at length about Salazar. She knew exactly what would happen if there was a change in the dynamic of her relationship with Salazar. We discussed it. And she knows I would keep my word.
You should ask her about all of that, ask her about every run in we had before this happened, get some facts, not just conjecture, before you run around assuming you know how she sees me. Because if you can't see past the surface, if you can't bother to really try and see me through her eyes, then I haven't lost a friend today, I've lost nothing of actual worth.

If you've ever felt any emotion, you know how irrational they are. They aren't controlled by promises, deals, or knowing what will go wrong if you give into them anyway.
She knows two things for sure though Leon.
She loves him. And you will keep your promise. That means that Salazar is probably fucked. By both sides.
What would you do for Claire if she was in this much trouble, but you were sure she was innocent? Even if the evidence stacked up against her?
Leon, a friend is someone who's not afraid to tell you when you're wrong.
I'm telling you right now. You're wrong. You want to ignore that, that's fine. But at least I did my part as a friend.
And by the way, by opening this? You just lost a spy. Because now everyone knows I'm associated with you.
Or was, at least. That part I'll leave up to you.
