Leon likes Liz, she was easily his first friend when he got to the nexus, and was (and still is) very much grateful for her attempts to get him to relax. Also, a lot of the things he loves about Claire he sees in Liz, so that helps.
He does wish that she would let go of whatever guilt that seems to eat at her sometimes.
